Currently based at King’s College Hospital in London, Professor Kypros H. Nicolaides is globally recognized as one of the pioneers in the field of Fetal Medicine. He is the Founder and Chairman of The Fetal Medicine Foundation (FMF), established in 1995, which has supported international training and major multicenter research by donating more than £45 million to global fetal medicine advancement. Professor Nicolaides also leads the annual World Congress in Fetal Medicine, attended by over 2,000 specialists from around the world.

A distinguished academic and clinician, Professor Nicolaides has authored over 1,500 peer-reviewed research papers and more than 30 medical books. With an H-index of 183 and over 135,000 research citations, he holds the highest academic impact in Obstetrics and Gynecology worldwide. Over the course of his career, he has trained more than 1,000 doctors in fetal medicine across more than 50 countries. His work has helped shape clinical standards and advance prenatal care globally.

Professor Kypros H. Nicolaides has developed pioneering methods in the early detection and prevention of major pregnancy complications, including preterm birth, pre-eclampsia, chromosomal abnormalities, and congenital disorders. In addition, he has led the development of advanced fetal therapy techniques. These include fetal blood transfusion, thoraco-amniotic shunting, laser therapy for twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome, and fetal tracheal occlusion for congenital diaphragmatic hernia. He is the proponent of the ‘Turning the Pyramid of Prenatal Care’ model. This approach emphasizes early, individualized risk assessment at 11–13 weeks of gestation.
